There really are herbs that lower blood pressure!.

herbs that lower blood pressure, herbal remediesThe concept of lowering blood pressure by consuming herbs like rauwolfia is not completely new. Besides being delicious, herbs such as mistletoe can help heal your body and even extend your life span!

Keep in mind that just because they grow in nature doesn't mean that all herbal remedies are safe for everyone. All herbal treatments for hypertension or any other health condition should be taken under the care of a physician or naturopath.

Rauwolfia

Rauwolfia is one of the herbs that lower blood pressure. You only need small amounts of Rauwolfia to start seeing the positive effects on your blood pressure. Note that some people experience nasal congestion while taking this herb.

Other side effects have also been noted and rauwolfia should not be used as a home remedy - it is only recommended under the use of a doctor or naturopath. Rauwolfia can not be taken when pregnant, breast feeding, if depressed, or if you are using alcohol, or other drugs such as hypertension (blood pressure) medication.

Mistletoe

Mistletoe can be used to lower blood pressure, but it is commonly used to increase blood pressure when it drops too low as well. It may not be as effective as rauwolfia however. Please note that the berries of mistletoe are poisonous. Mistletoe should not be taken with any other medications or alcohol or if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Hawthorne Berry

Hawthorne Berry is another of the herbs that lower blood pressure. Besides keeping your blood pressure under control, your heart can benefit from this herb. Hawthorne berry has been proven to fight angina, increase circulatory system functioning, dilate blood vessels in the heart, and strengthen the heart. What more could you ask for?

You need to take Hawthorne berry for approximately four to five weeks before you will see results.

Coleus Forskohlii

This is one of the herbs that have been used for many years for hypertension, but it also helps with weight loss. In addition, it may help with indigestion and may make it easier for your body to absorb certain vitamins and minerals. Finally, this herb can give your immune system a much needed boost.

Saffron

Particular orchids are the source of saffron, a yellow herb rich with something called crocetine. The healthy benefits to your blood pressure come from the crocetine. You can use it as tea or add it into meals - especially rice dishes. There are many delicious recipes that include saffron - it's an added bonus that it's another of the herbs that lower blood pressure.

Valerian Root

Valerian will relax all of the muscles of the body, including the heart. When the heart relaxes the blood can circulate through much easier and blood pressure can be lowered. It is best to combine valerian with other herbs for maximum benefit, but note that it can make you drowsy. Valerian root is typically recommended for short term use as long term use can sometimes cause depression.

A Cautionary Note

Herbs seem innocent and safe since they are completely natural and come from seemingly harmless plant sources. Yet, they can interact with prescription medications or even some over-the-counter medications. It is important to watch how much you are taking of these herbs and to check with your doctor if you are taking any other medications. Some herbs can be extremely potent!
